Device-Based Pricing

Robopack is licensed per device. This page defines exactly how Robopack counts devices, which devices are and are not included, and how discrepancies are handled. It is the definition referenced by Robopack subscription agreements and used by Robopack support and finance when discussing licensing, renewals and invoicing.

The device count

Robopack's licensed device count is the number of Windows devices enrolled in Microsoft Intune in the tenants connected to your Robopack organisation, as reported by the Microsoft Graph API.

Enrollment is the sole criterion: a device is counted if it has an Intune enrollment record in a connected tenant, regardless of how actively the device is used or how it is otherwise managed.

Concretely, a device is counted when all of the following are true:

  • It is enrolled in Microsoft Intune in a tenant connected to Robopack.
  • Its operating system is Windows.
  • It has an enrollment record returned by Microsoft Graph.

Robopack does not maintain its own separate device inventory for licensing. The count reflects what Intune reports at the time it is taken.

What is not counted

Not countedNotes
macOS devicesCurrently free to manage. See macOS devices below.
iOS, iPadOS and Android devicesNot managed by Robopack.
Devices in tenants not connected to RobopackOnly connected tenants are counted.
Windows Servers

Windows Server devices that appear in Intune, including servers onboarded through Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, are reported by Graph as Windows devices and are included in the count. If your estate includes servers, mention it to your sales contact at purchase, or to csm@robopack.com at renewal, so it can be taken into account.

How and when the count is taken

The count is refreshed during Robopack's daily sync with each connected tenant. Where multiple tenants are connected, the count is the total across all connected tenants.

The figure used for invoicing and renewals is the count taken on the invoice or renewal date.

Free licence and pricing tiers

Organisations with fewer than 50 counted devices qualify for the free licence, with no support entitlement. Above 50 devices a paid licence is required, with graduated per-device pricing and a minimum annual fee applying until 390 devices. NGOs and non-profit organisations above the free-licence limit receive discounted pricing rather than a free licence. See the FAQ and robopack.com/pricing for current figures.

Managing a subset of your devices

The device count includes all enrolled Windows devices in a connected tenant, not only the devices you deploy applications to. Robopack can license a subset of a tenant's devices, but it requires a specific agreement with Robopack: Robopack reads the whole tenant's device inventory and application deployment is scoped by Intune groups, not by Robopack, so a partial licence cannot be enforced or verified automatically.

If you only intend to manage part of your estate, discuss it with your sales contact at purchase, or with csm@robopack.com if you are already a customer.

Discrepancies between the count and your own figures

Because the count comes directly from Intune, it can differ from the number of devices you believe you are actively managing. Common causes:

CauseWhy it inflates the countWhat you can do
Stale devicesDevices that have not checked in for months remain enrolled in Intune until removed.Set an Intune device clean-up rule to remove devices that have not checked in for a set number of days, then allow the count to refresh.
Duplicate device recordsRe-imaged or re-enrolled devices can leave a second record behind.Remove the stale record in Intune.
ServersWindows Server visible in Intune, including through Defender for Endpoint, is reported as a Windows device.Mention servers to your sales contact at purchase, or to csm@robopack.com at renewal.
Devices from other tenantsAll connected tenants are totalled.Disconnect tenants you do not want to license.

Robopack counts what Intune reports; keeping Intune tidy is the primary way to keep the count accurate. Intune's own device clean-up rules are the recommended tool for stale records.

If you have cleaned up Intune and still believe the count is inaccurate, contact support@robopack.com with the details so the counting can be investigated.

macOS devices

macOS devices are not currently included in the licensed device count and can be managed at no additional cost until 31 December 2026.

From 1 January 2027, macOS support becomes a licensing choice:

  • Include macOS: macOS devices are counted and priced on the same basis as Windows devices.
  • Decline macOS: macOS functionality is removed from your licence, and macOS devices remain uncounted.

Summary

  • Robopack counts Windows devices enrolled in Intune across all connected tenants, as reported by Microsoft Graph, refreshed daily. Invoicing uses the count on the invoice or renewal date.
  • The count is not changed by how many devices you deploy to. Licensing a subset requires a specific agreement.
  • Windows Servers visible in Intune are included; mention them at purchase or renewal.
  • Discrepancies are almost always stale or duplicate Intune records. Clean up Intune first, then contact support@robopack.com if the count still looks wrong.
  • macOS is free until 31 December 2026. From 1 January 2027 it is optional: priced like Windows if you keep it.
