Install and connect to SCCM
Application Manager builds on SoftwareCentral, using the same installer and infrastructure. Activate your Application Manager licence during first-time setup.
Before you start
Have the following ready:
- Web server: Windows Server 2019 or later, IIS 10+, .NET Framework 4.8+, and IIS URL Rewrite 2.1+. The documented minimum is a dual-core processor, 8 GB RAM and 10 GB free disk space; allow additional space for application content.
- Database: SQL Server or SQL Express 2019 or later, or Azure SQL, for the SoftwareCentral database.
- Service account: a domain user with local administrator rights on the web server and the documented SoftwareCentral, SQL and ConfigMgr permissions.
- Installation account: local administrator access, plus permission to create the database and SQL logins, or a database and logins prepared by your SQL administrator.
- SCCM details: site code, server and site database details, application content share, and the administrator group that will manage Application Manager.
Use the SoftwareCentral prerequisites for the full account, permission and network requirements. These cover the SoftwareCentral platform that powers Application Manager.
Run the installer
- Get the current SoftwareCentral installer from the official installation guide, run it on the web server and complete the requirements check.
- Enter the domain service account and the SoftwareCentral site and database details.
- Keep ConfigMgr support enabled: leave Disable ConfigMgr support unselected. Choosing an Intune-only installation requires a new installation and database if you later need ConfigMgr support.
- Choose your sign-in method. Windows Authentication uses your on-premises domain accounts. Azure OpenID requires an Entra app registration; follow the app registration guide for that option. An Intune connection is optional for an SCCM-only setup.
- Enter your Configuration Manager details and select Check MECM. Resolve any connection or database-permission errors, then select Install.
- Restart the server if prompted.
Next: First-time setup. If installation fails, check SoftwareCentralInstaller_Log.txt in the installer's folder.
